In an effort to advance the study of the Lifesong Disorder, a research group in Philadelphia is conducting a broad, controversial experiment. They have accumulated a group of fifty individuals with total hearing loss, who are being paid to have an mp3 player attached to their hip at all hours of the day, with the earbuds snugly in place. While there is no guarantee that the subject of the experiment would hear their presumed Lifesong or Lovesong, the wide range of music combined with the number of subjects does increase the chances.

Doctors and scientists have instructed the subjects to report any and all changes in mood, health, and general wellbeing as they occur. As of now, no updates have been reported.

There is outrage from both sides -- Lifesong believers and 'sufferers,' as well as skeptics. Those that know their own reactions to songs believe that it's unethical to subject these willing people to possible pain and emotional distress. Those on the other end of the spectrum are hesitant, and have a fear that this experiment will prove such an illness exists.
